Armani Crews turned 6 years old earlier this month, but instead of cake and presents for herself, she wanted something special for her birthday. The Chicago birthday girl had been begging her parents, Artesha and Antoine, “for months,” to feed the homeless in their community. Armani’s parents told ABC News that at first, they thought she was joking.
Armani’s mom said she told Armani, “'OK, we'll make some sandwiches,' to which Armani said, 'No. I want the same thing we'd have at my birthday party.” Even when her dad explained that this meant giving up her own cake and presents, the 6-year-old insisted.
So, the Chicago family, together with their church, pooled together food and care packages for the homeless community in the city's East Garfield Park neighborhood.
Armani’s birthday party fed more than 125 homeless people. Her mother told ABC News,
When asked why she did it, the birthday girl simply said, “It was nice to be nice.”
