The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign has been a staple of the holiday season for over a century and will be front and center in the upcoming Original movie, “Love at the Kettle” (working title), this Christmas.
The film, which will star Carlos and Alexa PenaVega, tells the story of two high school friends who reunite over the holidays in some unexpected ways, and end up finding love and purpose while volunteering at The Salvation Army's Red Kettle.
The PenaVegas are longtime supporters of The Salvation Army and have personally participated in various initiatives with the charity. In addition to serving as bell ringers in the Red Kettle Campaign, the Christian couple, who notably left Hollywood behind to put God and family first, has helped serve food boxes to families impacted by hurricanes in Florida, and most recently, helped coordinate Christmas gifts for families who lost everything in the devastating fires in their hometown of Lahaina, Hawaii.
“We also feel fortunate to have worked with The Salvation Army for a number of years, and we look forward to representing the authentic goodness behind the brand and mission,” Carlos said in a recent interview.
According to its website, the mission of The Salvation Army is “to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.” And while the Red Kettle Campaign has become synonymous with the Christmas season, the charity works year-round to help those who would otherwise be forgotten.
"We are incredibly excited about this film and the partnerships that have made it possible," said Great American Media President & CEO, Bill Abbott. "The collaboration with The Salvation Army not only enhances the story but also underscores the importance of giving to and supporting our neighbors.”

And it’s not the only partnership that is sure to make “Love At the Kettle” a Christmas film to remember. Some of the most exciting scenes were filmed inside the iconic AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which provided a stunning backdrop to a film that blends the excitement of Christmas, football, and the heartfelt message of the Salvation Army’s mission.
In fact, the filming marks Carlos’ return to AT&T Stadium where he joined his band Big Time Rush in performing the national anthem on Thanksgiving Day in 2011. And to make his return even more meaningful, the stadium will serve as the backdrop while Carlos sings an original song penned exclusively for the movie – “Get Him Back (For Christmas).”
“We are here in the empty stadium… I had to get one more video,” Carlos said in a recent video posted on his Instagram after filming wrapped. “Guys, this is surreal. I can’t wait for you to see [the film] … Thank you Cowboys and AT&T for having us because this was such a treat. God is good!”
The film will premiere as part of Great American Christmas 2024.
