In “Finding Faith,” Victoria is a columnist writer that goes by the pseudonym “Faith” and offers faith-based advice to people. She’s strong and independent but struggling in her personal life. This movie follows Victoria as she faces these challenges in her life and learns to rediscover faith and love.
“Finding Faith” has many faith-filled lessons that we can dive deeper into and apply to our personal faith journey.
Dealing with a Crisis of Faith
Victoria goes through some difficult life circumstances that seem to be happening all at once. These compounding circumstances cause her to experience a crisis of her faith. She feels alone, disconnected from God, and not sure where she can find Him in her current situation.
When we’re battling difficult life circumstances, it’s hard for us to look beyond what we currently see right in front of us. But our faith asks us to trust in our God who knows that these trials will strengthen our relationship with Him. A quote from the movie says, “We are all tested, that leads to our testimony.”
There's no easy way through life’s trials, as we can see through Victoria’s struggles. We are called to continuously seek Him; through His Word, prayer and being still, He will guide us through hard times.
Living Through Loss
In “Finding Faith,” Victoria experiences many tremendous losses consecutively. Her initial response is anger and hardening her heart to prevent further losses from hurting her.
God has given us the gift of community, the people around us to comfort us in our time of loss. The community God gives us provides comfort and encouragement to keep moving forward in our lives. Victoria finds comfort in her hometown's community – through old friends and her pastor - during her grief.
A quote from “Finding Faith” says, “There is no version of life that does not include pain and disappointment.” God never promises we will not experience hardships in this life. But He does promise that He works all things for good, including our trials and our losses.
Grace is Power
It can be hard to forgive people that have hurt us. It can also be hard to forgive ourselves for things we have done, or things out of our control. Victoria struggles to forgive her husband for past hurts and forgive herself for things that happened out of her control.
Forgiving others, and ourselves, isn’t the easiest task. Victoria struggles to see past the pain, hurt, betrayal and disappointment she has felt because of other people’s actions. These are all normal feelings to have when someone wrongs us, which is why forgiveness can be so powerful.
When God forgives us through His grace and mercy, we experience freedom from that guilt and shame we’ve been carrying around. The same is true when we forgive someone who wrongs us.
