"The message of 'The Blind' is wherever a soul is on life's journey, it is never too late to find redemption,” said Bill Abbott, President & CEO, Great American Media. “We are honored to be the exclusive streaming home to such a high quality movie.”
What some people don’t know is that long before the 77-year-old became a reality TV star on “Duck Dynasty,” he struggled with alcoholism and infidelity to the point that it nearly tore his family apart and destroyed his marriage. The film tells the true story of how the Robertson patriarch had to conquer the shame of his past and ultimately find redemption in Christ.
"When I ran up on Jesus all those years ago, I didn't know a movie about my worst moments would help reach thousands in theirs,” Robertson said. “We pray everyone will watch 'The Blind' on Great American Pure Flix so they can see that redemption and forgiveness are for every last one of us.”
From the beginning, the Duck Commander founder has said that if just one person comes to Jesus because of the film, it would be worth it. So, when news broke last year that young people were getting baptized after seeing it, Robertson could hardly contain his joy.
"If anything brings me to tears, this is it,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “I've baptized a lot of people in the name of Jesus. But in 50 years, the one thing I've never seen is young people getting baptized right after seeing a movie. Lord Jesus, let this break out nationwide when people watch 'The Blind.’”
And while the movie was certainly a spiritual triumph, it also delivered at the box office. In fact, the Fathom release was extended five times due to popular demand, grossing more than $15.7 million at the North American box office, and earning the title of the most successful release in Fathom Events history.
“They told me people don’t go to the theater to watch hard stories like ‘The Blind’ these days … Turns out ‘The Blind’ is reaching a mighty throng of individuals, and Hollywood is taking notice that this is a message you want to hear,” Robertson said in response to the headlines. “You’re never too far gone. God can reach you wherever you are and no matter how dark things have gotten. And however hopeless you feel, there is always hope in Jesus.”
“The Blind” is truly a reminder that no one is beyond the grace of God, and no one is so far gone that they cannot turn their life around. This stunning cinematic journey chronicles the love story that launched a dynasty, the turmoil that nearly brought it crashing down, and the hope that rose from the ashes to create a foundation for generations to come. It’s a film you won’t want to miss!
