Who better to help lead a faith-based film with a strong sports arc than Tim Tebow? The longtime Christian and former NFL quarterback and professional baseball player added executive producer to his extensive resume in 2018 with “Run the Race,” which will begin streaming on Great American Pure Flix May 9 at 8pm ET.

“I’ve received a lot of scripts over the years. But I haven’t always wanted to be in filmmaking,” Tebow explained in a 2018 interview. “I want to do the right films, films that will encourage or inspire or move people.”
He certainly found that in "Run the Race," which tells the story of brothers Zach and David who want nothing more than a ticket out of their small town after their mother dies and their father abandons them. Zach is able to earn a football scholarship, but when a devastating injury forces him to the sidelines, it’s up to David to keep the brothers’ dream alive while also showing Zach the security that comes from putting his faith in God.
“We all go through our own faith journey,” Tebow noted. “And that’s why I feel like one of the biggest things for me and the movie is understanding, even in your lows, God loves you and He’s been chasing you and He wants to know you and support you and He gave his best for you.”
Tebow’s brother, Robby, was also a producer on the film, and the duo really connected with the story of brothers’ relationship on screen. In fact, one might say that the film is more about Zach and David’s relationship than it is about sports.
"There are a lot of similarities in my life between two brothers supporting one another, having each other's back, believing in one another," Tebow said. "My family and my brother have always given me so much support. That’s made such a big impact on me being able to go after my dreams."
And while the Heisman Trophy winner has certainly experienced his fair share of highs and lows on and off the field, the one constant has always been his faith, which is something he hopes to share with the world through this film.
“I believe God loves all of us where we’re at, who we are, where we’re from and hopefully that’s a message that brings people together, not separates us,” Tebow noted. “You don’t want to trick people or fool people that all of the sudden life is going to be perfect [as a Christian]. [We’re] never told it’s going to be perfect or easy—just worth it.”
