Really?
There was a time, and not that long ago, when certain lines simply were not crossed in “mainstream” entertainment. But those lines have not just been blurred — they’ve been erased. And the race to the cultural bottom is seemingly without end.
The most recent example comes from White Lotus, that incredibly included a scene with a kiss between two brothers. This is where we are now: incest, positioned as normal. And it is not accidental, it is on purpose.
It is impossible to imagine how this is justifiable, but it aired, and remarkably, with very little backlash. No outrage. No headlines. No protests against the many advertisers who are featured within the show, including prestige brands like The Four Seasons. Just quiet acceptance, and some outright praise for the creator’s so-called “boldness.” In fact, I even read a comment that the creator was one of a kind, which is a blessing for the vast majority of us. Glorifying behavior like this is not courageous, but it certainly is destructive.
This is not about being unable to handle difficult subject matters or not wanting to have conversations about challenging issues. What it is about is recognizing that we long ago reached a point in “entertainment” where anything goes, and behavior that once would have been considered deviant and aberrant is now excused as edgy or even enlightened. Meanwhile, faith-forward stories are criticized for being “too clean” or “too safe,” and praying before a meal is labeled “controversial,” while incest is passed off as daring and elevated.
This is why Great American Media was founded. Not to keep up with culture, but to offer something that stands apart from it. We are here so families never have to wonder what they are going to see next and to stand apart with stories that uphold what matters most - faith, family, and country.
In today’s entertainment world where there is no accountability, few are willing to speak up and take a stand. But you can be sure of one thing: we always will. And we will not just stand for something, we’ll fight for it.
