From the studio and producers who brought us “War Room” and “Overcomer,” comes “Legacy Peak,” a family adventure that will encourage you and inspire you has come back to Pure Flix. Jason, played by Lucas Black, is on an adventure to win the hearts of Noelle’s kids, Sam and Ben, before they marry. Jason, who is a licensed pilot, adds some excitement to their Christmas trip by flying Sam and Ben to the cabin they’ll be staying at. When their plane unexpectedly crashes far away from their destination and they struggle to survive, the new family's faith will be tested.
“Legacy Peak” isn’t just a fun family adventure film. It’s a movie that also gives us many lessons that we can reflect upon. Let’s dive deeper into some of those lessons right now in this article.
1. What it means to be courageous and strong with God
Jason, Sam and Ben’s adventure takes them into some unknown and scary situations. They must navigate the wilderness, where you don’t always know what will happen. In those moments, Jason knows that he can rely on God for courage and strength to navigate those situations.
Jason’s faith has taught him that God is with him in any and every situation. He also knows that when he is weak, God is strong (2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NIV). In every unknown the trio face, Jason prays to God to be his strength and give him courage to face the circumstances head on.
Joshua 1:9 (NIV) tells us:
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
What do we face the unknown and fear what it is we don’t know? Jason’s steady faith and asking for courage and strength during times he’s afraid teaches us we can do the same in those moments. Remembering that God is with us at every moment, even when we’re afraid and scared, is a big lesson we can learn from Jason in “Legacy Peak.”
2. Accepting God as our Heavenly Father
Jason, Sam and Ben all have unique stories relating to the father figures they’ve had in their lives. For Jason, growing up in the foster care system, being passed from home to home didn’t allow for him to have a constant and present father figure. It wasn’t until he started spending time at church where the pastor became his father figure that he then accepted and fully understood God’s role and power as our Heavenly Father.
For Sam and Ben, who lost their father at a young age, they both carry the pain of losing their dad and not having him present anymore. For Sam, she remembers who her dad was and what kind of man he was for their family. While Ben is too young to remember as many details, he still wishes that he had a father to look up to as a role model.
2 Corinthians 6:16, 18 (NIV) says:
... As God has said: ‘I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people’ ... And, 'I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.’
God accepts us as His sons and daughters, as His children. He is our ever-present father figure in our life Who will never leave us. This is a lesson Jason learned that he is passing on to Sam and Ben so that they, too, can feel God’s love, care and protection as their Father.
3. Being a Child of God
As we mentioned, because Jason never had a constant father figure in his life, he learned how to lean on God as his Father. As a child in the foster care system, he admits he felt lost and wasn’t sure who he was as a kid. It wasn’t until he started to go to church that he could truly understand and stand firm in his identity.

We are all children of God. What does that mean? The image of a father holding the hand with their child is often used to explain how God is our ultimate Father. A child looks up to their father for protection, encouragement and love. They trust their father to lead them in the right direction and never question where their father takes them.
John 1:12 -13 (NIV) says:
“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”
We’re called to have a similar father-child relationship in the same way with God as we are with our earthly father figure. Jason tells both Sam and Ben how much God has done for him throughout his life and shown up in his life as a Father.
