Holy Week: Journey to the Cross and Beyond

Written by Cameron Cortman

Holy Week is the most sacred time in our faith, marking the journey of Jesus from trial to triumph, from suffering to ultimate victory. It is a time for deep reflection, gratitude, and renewal, as we walk step by step with Christ through the final days of His earthly ministry.

The week begins with Palm Sunday, a celebration of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. Crowds welcomed Him with palm branches and shouts of praise, declaring, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” (Mark 11:9). But as the week unfolds, the atmosphere shifts. The joy of Palm Sunday gives way to the solemnity of the Last Supper, the agony of Gethsemane, the pain of betrayal, and the unjust trial that led Jesus to the cross.

The Cross: A Moment of Suffering and Redemption

On Good Friday, we remember the sacrifice of Jesus—His willingness to bear the weight of our sins and endure the suffering of the cross. It is a moment of great sorrow, yet also one of redemption. Jesus walked this road for you, for me, for all of us. His love knew no bounds, and His sacrifice was not the end of the story.

Because three days later, everything changed.

The Resurrection: Victory Over Death

Easter Sunday is the pinnacle of our faith. The tomb was empty. The grave could not hold Him. Jesus rose from the dead, conquering sin and death forever. His resurrection is the foundation of our hope, reminding us that no darkness is too great, no pain is too deep, and no sin is too powerful to separate us from the love of God.

This Holy Week, let’s take time to reflect on each step of Jesus’ journey—not just to the cross, but beyond it. Because His resurrection means new life, new hope, and the promise that we are never alone.
